TIGERS MAKE A MIZE DECISION AT #1
The Detroit Tigers went pitching at #1 overall by selecting Auburn Tigers pitching standout, Casey Mize. Mize is described as having the best combination of stuff and polish over any pitcher in this draft. he next four picks were all from the collegiate ranks, including the White Sox picking the best position player in the draft: 2B Nick Madrigal. It wasn't till pick #6 where a high schooler was drafted as the Mets selected a high school outfielder in Jarred Kelenic; that started a short streak of high schoolers drafted until pick 9.
An intriguer pick came from the Oakland Athletics as they selected two-sport athlete Kyler Murray from the University of Oklahoma. Presently, the outfielder is focusing on taking over the starting quarterback role, but has an expectation to focus on baseball after his career on the gridiron is over. Murray made significant strides as he did not play much ball for the past two seasons.. He is looked at as the best athlete in the draft.
