The trade deadline produced a lot of heavy movements between those aiming for the postseason, and those who have mailed it in. In its wake, one league showed how much they want to keep the World Series title for another year and beyond.

The American League's Oakland A's and Detroit Tigers made power moves that signify their determination in winning the pennant and ultimately the World Series. The A's acquired an ace in Jon Lester but took a potential risk in giving up a bat in Cespedes; earlier they acquired starting pitching from the Cubs featuring starter Jeff Samardzija. In a closing fury, the Tigers acquired Rays ace David Price in a three-team trade which saw them lose their starting centerfielder in Austin Jackson; that gives then a solid rotation that can sweep a division series. With this, both teams are hoping to meet in the ALCS to determine who will go to the Fall Classic.

The Boston Red Sox, on the other hand, seemed to have hung it up for the season as they traded most of their pitching staff. However, they are setting their eyes on next season and bringing back one of their starters via free agency. The Sox acquires the potent bat and arm of Yoenis Cespedes and hope the Allen Craig from a couple of seasons ago comes back. In addition, they set themeselves up for the future by acquiring young arms from the Giants and Orioles.

Winning the Midsummer Classic meant something for the American League as they have home field advantage throughout the World Series, but it's totally clear the league wants it more.
