Pandemic freezes baseball

A global pandemic has swept across the country. The sports landscape is at a standstill as every active sport hit a complete stop finishing the season. Baseball was in Spring Training mode, with the focus towards Opening Day. Then, the preseason was halted in favor of the health and safety of others. As the event unraveled, facilities were cleared out and players told to go on off-season mode. Baseball's Opening Day was not going to happen until there is an all-clear that it's alright to play ball and have crowds.

There is anticipation when the season will eventually start. There's a feeling it will be around Memorial Day weekend. Then there are issues like determining the amount of games will be played this season, will there be a All-Star Game in L.A, and the statuses of the First-Year Draft and International Signing Day (which is being threatened thanks to the cancellation of the college baseball season, high school Spring sports, and scouts being pulled from their assignments). The Puerto Rico Series and the Mexico Series will not be played this season. The London Series, featuring division rivals: the Chicago Cubs and the St.Louis Cardinals, awaits its fate.

In the meantime, the league is taking care of it's players finances to make sure they are covered during this challenging period; a plan was created to address the non-roster players (especially those who don't make the final roster) . They assisted MiLB in making sure their players were taken cared of through a certain date.

On an unfortunate note, the Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees organizations have been directly affected by this outbreak. At this present time, there are no known cases of MLB players being affected by this novel virus.

It's totally important that health and safety comes first. The situation must be put under control for everything to return back to normal.

Patience is a must at this time. Baseball will resume when everything around resumes. In the meantime, enjoy watching some classic baseball games and films.
