This year's draft started out in a family fashion as the sons of two former major leaguers went 1-2. The Baltimore Orioles continued with their impressive ranks of drafting potential promise with the selection of SS Jackson Holliday, who is the son of former outfielder Matt Holliday. The offspring is described to having the ability to become a five-tool player. The Arizona Diamondbacks went with Andrew Jones son, Druw Jones; he is described as a dynamic five-tool player who is capable to play just like his father at the highest level. Both players come from the high-school ranks so it will some time to see if they are close to the major league level.

Being spurned by the Mets due to injury concerns, P Kumar Rocker went through the independent leagues to rebuild his draft stock and a year later it paid off. The hurler was drafted by the Texas Rangers at #3, the same organization that has his former collegiate teammate- Jack Leiter. At 4, the Pittsburgh Pirates went with what is considered as the best pure high school hitters in INF Termarr Johnson. The Washington Nationals (#5) got a player who may have the highest ceiling of any draft prospect in high school OF Elijah Green: he is the son of former NFL Pro Bowl TE Eric Green. At #6, the Miami Marlins broke the streak of high-schoolers picked and they selected 3B/OF Jacob Berry out of LSU; he has the combination of hitting ability, power and plate discipline. The Chicago Cubs (#7) went with the best collegiate pitcher in Cade Horton out of Oklahoma. The Minnesota Twins, with the eighth pick, selected SS Brooks Lee out of Cal Poly; described as the best college hitter. A solid summer with Team USA landed the Kansas City Royals OF Gavin Cross (Virginia Tech) with the ninth pick. Rounding out the Top Ten, the Colorado Rockies went with P Gabriel Hughes out of Gonzaga..............a fully healthy pitcher who has a rare college arm with a potential three-pitch mix to go along with a rotation build.

These players will participate this Summer in the draft league. Who will get their first will depend on who will move up their respective farm system.
