MEET THE NEWEST INDUCTEES
The newest class is officially enshrined with the rest of the legends, that graced the diamond throughout baseball's history. Each newest inductee put their unique spin with their speeches.
Two Tigers legends were excited to get in at the same time. Jack Morris had to wait agonizingly wait to get in for years until the sportswriters relented that his time is now. The same thing happened to Alan Trammell as he thought the day would never come. It took 15 years to wait until the Modern Era Committee called their names out. In the end, it was well worth the wait.
Vladimir Guerrero spent the least amount of time on the podium...........less than four minutes........cutting to the point in honoring his hometown in the Dominican Republic and his time with the Angels. It was revealed to be Father's Day in his country so that capped off a very special day.
It was well the investment of the speech for Jim Thome as he emphasized the importance of practicing for the most important day of his life. He reflected on his time of the clubs he played for, including where it all started: Cleveland. He thanked his old manager, Charlie Manuel, for his mentoring and loyalty throughout his career. It was all topped off by her daughter he sang the national anthem
For one of the greatest closers of the game, Trevor Hoffman mentioned how things would be different if he continued on to being a shortstop; it followed up with a quirk. He looked back in what it meant to make such an adjustment from being a position player to a pitcher by using a quote from legendary college basketball coach, John Wooden. He said that playing in San Diego for the longest time was like hitting the jackpot.
Theme stuck with Chipper Jones as he paid homage and appreciation for the Braves fanbase throughout his career. He gave thanks to his former manager, Bobby Cox, for putting him in the position to flourish in the insport, and, in believing in him.
The 2018 class left a mark on the sport. Shall see what the next class has for store.
