Cora becomes a
first-year winner
After a few disappointing seasons, the Boston Red Sox made a managerial change with the hopes of advancing on to the next level. The change paid off in such a gigantic way.
Alex Cora, coming off a World Series title as bench coach of the Houston Astros, led the Red Sox with a baseball's best 108 wins, Despite pockets of a slowdown, Cora figured a way to maintain a composure (even with his ace pitcher, Chris Sale, on the disabled list. When it came to postseason time, Cora used his baseball smarts to guide the team to dominating series victories against 100-win teams in the division-rival New York Yankees and previous champion Houston Astros. In the World Series, Cora led the Red Sox to the title in five games against the NL best Los Angeles Dodgers. He led the team to the first title since '13, and, the fourth title this century. Cora proved he can be as successful as a manager as he was as a bench coach.
