CAPITOL CHAMPS!!!
Nationals overcame odds to be baseball's best
Back in May, the Washington Nationals were 19-31 and having a rough transition from the former face of the franchise, Bryce Harper. Manager Dave Martinez was a manager that was on hot seat watch. Then they got blazing hot and never looked back. The reward was the postseason with a wild-card spot.
With the team in the postseason, they found a Milwaukee Brewers team that got in without their offensive firepower in Christian Yelich. It seemed they were going to be sent packing until they rallied in the late-innings to move on to the NLDS. In the division series, their critical hits against the #1 seeded Los Angeles Dodgers sent postseason shock waves; they took out one of baseball's best by going the full-length of the series. In the NLCS, the Nationals swept up the St.Louis Cardinals in sweeping fashion to win the NL pennant.
In a World Series that presented no home wins from either team, the Washington Nationals took out the AL Champion Houston Astros in 7 games to win their first title. The Nationals took out baseball's best pitcher when it counted the most. A combined team effort proved to be the ultimate clincher. The Nationals are a team that overcame the odds against a powerful Houston Astros team.
